Dear Community Friends:
Remembrance Day week-end is always a busy time in the community. This year it will be especially significant for all of us. In addition to the Branch 109 Legion and other community events that are scheduled, we are planning a short commemoration for the 101st anniversary of the Great Lakes Storm of 1913.
Please join our committee at the site of the Unknown Sailors burial plot at Maitland Cemetery, for a few moments, at 5pm, Sunday, November 9, for a short memorial and wreath-laying ceremony. We will lower our flags, share some fitting music, and offer a few brief words of remembrance to the more than 260 sailors who lost their lives in that storm.
It will be exactly 101 years, to the very hour, that the horrible storm let loose its full fury on our shores.
We cannot let the memory of this major maritime disaster be forgotten. Please take a few minutes and join with us in this short remembrance at the end of a busy community weekend.
